Our guests for the weekend are Rabbi Eddie and Chazanit Roxanne Sukol, MD. (See Biographies below) The weekend will begin with assembling a vegetarian Cholent at 5:00 pm Friday under the direction of Dr. Roxanne. At 5:20 we’ll enjoy a potluck dinner, at 6:00 we’ll be joined by Rev. Alex Jensen and members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for a memorial observance for those killed in Israel on October 7. At 6:20 our Shabbat service will begin featuring Chazanit Roxanne with Rabbis Eddie and Arnie. It will be an uplifting, musical service followed by Oneg.

Dr. Roxanne Sukol, MD

Roxanne B. Sukol is an internationally recognized expert in health and wellness. Throughout her career as a physician, speaker, and writer, she has advised executives, medical professionals, and community leadership in Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies, academia, and non-profit organizations. Dr. Sukol has spoken extensively at seminars, events, and conferences including TEDx, and has written for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Wall Street Journal, KevinMD.com, Human Pathology, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)., and the Baltimore Review. She has been quoted in the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, Arthritis Advisor, Martha Stewart Living, Marie Claire, Redbook, and Prevention Magazine. Dr. Sukol is a 1995 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine with distinction in Biomedical Ethics, and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).

Her musical resume includes multiple visits to the Leo Baeck School in Haifa, Israel, to serve as chazanit; a concert tour of the Rhine Valley as a member of the Choir of the Jerusalem Academy of Music; and two appearances at Carnegie Hall as a member of the Rutgers University Choir.

Rabbi Eddie Sukol

Rabbi Eddie Sukol founded The Shul, Cleveland's Open Synagogue, in 2007. His previous rabbinical appointments include service as the Hillel Director at Ohio University, the Director of Pastoral Care at the Montefiore Home and NCJW Hospice, and as a congregational rabbi.

Rabbi Sukol serves as the Rabbi at The Cleveland Clinic on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. He is a member of the Ethics Committee of University Hospitals and the Pediatric Ethics Committee of Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. Rabbi Eddie Sukol, received Rabbinical Ordination and a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters degree from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He received a B.A. degree in psychology from Temple University. In 2012, he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree, honoris causa, from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in recognition of twenty-five years in the rabbinate.

Rabbi Sukol is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. He has also completed specialized training in Clinical Pastoral Care and Counseling. Rabbi Sukol is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of The Hillel Foundation at Ohio University. He is a past president of the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis and a former Board Member of the Agnon School, the Athens AIDS Taskforce, and the Southeastern Ohio Foodbank. Rabbi Sukol is married to Roxanne B. Sukol, M.D. While not pursuing his professional interests, Rabbi Sukol enjoys baking, especially organic whole wheat challah, and playing the conga drums.
